So as you see by the title of this topic i messed up pretty bad in my eyes.
I am a complete noob at hardware stuff inside the computer so today i decided to look up how to add more ram so maybe i can learn a little more about my own laptop. So i followed the video, i opened the ram slot and i saw the two little prongs, and clicked both of the and the Ram stick popped up, i took out the ram and i layed it beside me. I was then really happy and completely nervous and i forgot how to put it in, so i just did it my own way. I remembered from the video the guy told me to put the ram in a 45% angle and match the notch with the little thing that sticked out, i did that and then i also remembered that he said to push it down with a little force until you hear a click, will, i heard the click but when i put everything back together and turned on my laptop my ram went down from 6gb to 4gb. I don't know what to do guys. My laptop is a Hp envy m6 1105dx with windows 8. I am really nervous about the whole situation.

Pull the RAM stick out again and make sure you seated it correctly. It's probably just loose.

Did you maybe put it on the wrong side (top / bottom)?
Even though in most laptops you can't put it wrong since it's designed that way because of memory's notch for putting it in the slot the right way.

Also does your laptop have just 1 RAM chip or more than one?

Also did you maybe damage the RAM gold contacts/wires either on RAM chip or laptop's motherboard or both with which RAM connects?
Such as this:

Because if just one is damaged or missing, that will cause the problem you have plus a lot more in the future of course...

Also when returning the RAM chip back, those prongs/latches which need to click when RAM is returned back can scratch the RAM chip if not done properly and carefuly.

So...did any of this happened to you?

Also give us your RAM model if you can...

So I am guessing you have two sticks: one 4GB, one 2GB, and the one you took out was the 2GB one, correct?

What did you lay the stick on?

Try only using the 2GB stick. And never lay them on carpet or any kind of cloth.

And really, don't worry. You probably won't see any difference going from 6GB to 4GB.
