Office Network Help

Hello,
In our office we have a small server-client (1 server + 6 workstations) network. Normally the network speed is not bad but when a network accounting program is used at the same time, the performance gets slower. The server is 1.5 Gb ram, 2.4 Ghz Xeon and 60 HDD. The switch we are using as follows:
Click

I plan to change the switch with the following for a better performance.

Linksys SR224G

Will this be ok or won't change anything? Or is the server a problem?

Thank you...

Your problem is too broad at the moment to even come close to a conclusion of what is going on. To answer your question, the switch w/ the gigabit pipes in it will definitely help.

What OS is your server? How is it set up? AD, Citrix, etc? How is the application ran off the server? Is it pushed out through anything?

Did it ever perform fast at one point? If so what was the last install/update/upgrade you did?

Have you tried capturing packets on your network to monitor its actual useage?

Thanks for your reply.

Actually I dont have a broad knowledge in networking. But what I can tell, the operating system is Windows 2003 server, The updates of the OS are ok, we are using Active directory and logging in-out and internet etc are considerably fast. However as I told you, we use an accounting program called Quickbooks. It is a network program and the clients are always connected to the server. Sometimes the operation gets pretty slow. How can I test and determine what causes this?
And at least if you could tell me, the switch we are using is ok for a small business?

Thanks again...

PS.
Sorry, there is only a server and clients with they are connected via the switch...

well for one I would monitor the server's system resources via task manager (since its windows enviroment) when the quickbooks app is ran to see if it really taxes the server or its a problem with bandwidth. What OS is on the clients windows XP?

Yes, I will monitor the system tomorrow. If it is a bandwidth issue, will that switch help then?

All the clients are win xp pro.

Thanks...
