What is the point of OEM software coming pre installed? I mean? All its useful for is for advertising their name....and that's usually on the boot screen anyway. I think when you set up a computer, it should give you the option of typical or advanced, typical reccomended for normal users, which installs the oem software and clean which gives you a clean os with nothing on it.. It woul make more sense anyway... Since most computer geeks wipe the software off anyway... Its just a pain in the @ss.
 
Yeah sometimes the bloat can be an annoyance, usually bloatware is media stuff such as photo organisers or toolbars. It doesn't take all that long to remove anyway.

Just another reason to build your own system though. ;)

It's just to shove the bloatware down a customers throat so they buy it. It works for some, while others just ignore it.

But its free... :L I just reinstalled the OS of my netbook, since it was getting slow, its the PB Dot 510p... there was about 40 pieces of bloatware that I removed :L

EDIT: One piece of bloatware that came preinstalled however was Adobe Photoshop Elements Full Edition... I cant see why you would use it on a net-book with a small screen...but...meh... expensive software for free? I'm in!

You do realize that the bloatware installed on a computer is helping keep the cost of the computer down, don't you? Software companies pay the computer builder to install that bloatware and the builder uses that to subsidize the cost which allows them to sell the computer for less. It's very similar to having commercials on TV.

But its a Packard Bell computer... with Packard Bell software on it... free software... where is the win in that? Its like me saying: 'I will sponsor myself nothing to help my costs'.
 
In that case, PB is trying to make it seem that their computers have more "value" than another because of included software. To the uninformed, that free software may seem like a great deal.
 
Yup, keeps the cost down, which I think is a good thing. Which then I would just boot up my copy of win7 and be done with it all.

Just answered your own question. So every time you turn on your computer, everyone knows what kind of computer that is. Free advertisement for them.

Hyperthreading is not duel core, its 2 threads per core , i7's dont have 8 cores. Not much performance increase with the p4's hyper threading.

My brother bought a laptop, it had so much bloatware on it it would be easier and faster to re install win7. The uninstall program list is so long it takes awile to scroll down to the bottom.

And I hate on creiglist, when they sell a computer, they say as a perk, LAODED WIthSofTWAREW, instant flag.

Are you saying there is not a dual core pentium 4 processor? They did make them you know....but they were called Pentium Ds I believe....same processor just dual core. I may have one somewhere.....

Yes I am saying that. Yes there is pentium Ds, they are not considered a pentium 4. They are 2 Prescott cores, yes. But they are not and not considered pentuim 4 duel cores. Two completely different processors.When people say that on craigslist they mean hyperthreading. Big difference.

The Prescott is a Pentium 4 core..... and the Pentium D has 2 Pentium 4 cores built onto it (seperate dies though, so different from todays multi-core processors, as they were less efficient).

You are right, they were not referred to as Pentium 4 dual cores. But to call them a Pentium 4 dual core is not incorrect as that is essentially what they are.

Just because someone list it as a Pentium 4 dual core, does not mean it is just a P4 with HT. It could very well be a dual core Pentium 4 processor. As they did make them, they were not officially called that but that is exactly what they were.

Yea I know where your coming from, that was more of there nickname. They consumed alot of power and made alot of heat to.

Who would have thought that having 2 of the hottest running processors known to man on one chip could lead to a melted motherboard? :D

I personally have not used the Celeron D that I have, I bought it for cheap a while back but then I didnt need it. I could only imagine if it was 2 Prescott cores though, as the single prescott I had got up to 85c+ under load and idle at 65c. That was on stock air cooling with no overclocks or anything.

And thats why we had the btx motherboard lol. Back on subject, bloatware sucks, delete it or reinstall with normal win7.And I was messing around in bios in our school computers, and most have 1.6ghz celeron single cores, I found one in the library with a celeron D 2.8ghz. I always pick that one, people wonder why Im browsing the web before theres has even finished booting lol.

I own one, I think it is a e2180. We are saying Pentium 4 duel core, witch was in the guys sig, that does not exist, unless he meant hyperthreading p4 or a pentium D. We never even mentioned this processor. This thread is veering off into the grand canyon lol.
