Odd sound problems

Hi,
first of all, I'm new to the forums so hi everyone! I've had a 5.1ch speaker system for quite some time and it worked ok until recently, where the rear right surround and the front left speaker stopped working. These two arent connected so the problem was strange. I assumed it was my speakers because they were relatively old. About a week ago I used a registry optimizer and afterwards my sound wasn't working well at all. Many videos on youtube didn't play any sound and often times the sound was only coming from the subwoofer. I decided to buy a new set of speakers to see if that would help.
With my new speakers youtube videos only play from one speaker and everything else works ok, except that the rear right and front left speakers still never work.
I use SoundMax HD and I tried to install a new driver but it never worked for some reason. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try to make the sound work better? If you need any info about my system, let me know. I have very little experience with Audio in particular so I wasn't sure what information to provide.
Thanks!

Your sound card drivers software could be corrupted.

Uninstall the software/drivers and do a clean re-install of the drivers.
