Hello All,

Looks like my graphics card is going/gone... when booting the pc it blue screens right after the windows logo. If i boot into safe mode and disable the device in device manager i can then boot into normal mode. I have tried updating the drive for the graphics card with no luck. The nvlddmkm.sys is what is causing the BSOD.. ive tried a few troubleshooting steps found online (no luck)..

The PC is from 2005

how can i tell when video cards will be compatible with my pc if i wanted to get a new one?

the current graphics card is P/N: 256-p2-N376-BX

any assistance greatly appreciated

thanks

Looks like you are using a pci express video card. What make and model of power supply do you have?

You will have be to careful about what video card to get. You don't have much power to give out there. If you have a shuttle pc your best bet would be to get a new case and a decent power supply if you plan on doing any decent gaming.

Hey John, i'm honestly not planning on doing any gaming (im past that in my life now..).. just looking for a compatible graphics card/replacement for what i currently have.. and 300 w isnt much? (i honestly dont mess with these things much thats why i ask)

thanks!

I'd say get a different 6800gt on e-bay because they are around $15 (including shipping) and if it offers you enough performance then there is no need to upgrade. If you want a bit of an upgrade then you can get a newer low wattage card, like an hd 5/6450 or a gt 520.

Have you tried using driver sweeper in safe mode. Let it remove all the files and everything for the video card, then install a fresh copy of the drivers. A driver update will not fix a corrupted driver file, which sounds like what you might have.
