noob networking question

I want to set up a wireless network using a pc and laptop. I have cable access. I don't want either computer in the rooms with the cable outlets. Is it possible to just have the wireless router connected to the cable outlet by itself with wireless network cards in the computers in different rooms? What brand/type of router/cards would you reccomend? thanks Jim
 
yes that is do-able

you probably would want to connect to the router through a cat 5 network cable for the setup phase....do not forget to set wireless security AFTER you make sure all is working correctly...set encryption..
you will need a wireless router a wireless pci card for the pc.. a wireless pcmcia for the notebook. you can also use a wireless usb adapter for both , though not recommended for reasons, plus if you only have usb ver 1.1 ports.
