Noob Alert!

Ok so i want to buy a good router so that i can use my laptop wirelessly. The laptop already has wireless enabled. I want to set up my internet so that the desktop is connected to the router via ethernet cable and the modem then connected to the router via USB. My laptop is directly upstairs so it would be no more than about 5 metres away from the router. Any suggestions of good routers and also any things i have missed that i will need to set this up?

Why are you connecting the modem to the router with a USB cable...unless you have to, I think you should just stick with ethernet.

Basically any wireless router will do for you because as you said there will not be much of a distance. Go to your local electronics store and buy a fairly cheap one.

My modem is USB only.

However i would possibly want to use the laptop all over the house so i would rather get a decent router rather than a cheap one. Any suggestions?

am i missing something or is hat link supposed to got to that item, thats a wireless antenna thingy for the Nintendo DS console, for people to play games together, thats not what you need....

you would be better off just buying wireless adsl router, assuming you are using adsl broadband, as usb modems don't work with wireless routers

Also, i dont see the benefit of buying that router for £40 when i could get the USB wireless adaptor for 20 quid cheaper and both would be doing the same job.

a router that "supporsts wifi" IS a wireless router..... you need a wireless router to broadcast the signals out, and each PC then needs a wireless adapter to recieve the signals....

Well...i dont know much about pounds, but that looks maybe abit on the expensive side. However, aside from that its good.
