No sound

Alrighty, so my computer was starting to go very slow and the cpu skyrocketed randomly, so I decided that system recovery was a good idea. (I had no system restore points :o ) Well not too sound like a complete novice, I have used system recovery before. This time things were very different. The first few times I used it it simply changed everything back to how I had purchased it. This time it changed everything back to how it left the factory (I'm guessing). My window media player doesn't work (it says I don't have a sound device which I do, I don't know if I'm supposed to reinstall it or how). Not only that, it uninstalled components like Microsoft works (which alot of my paper work is done on and can't reinstall because I don't have the cd, the computer came with it) and now I have to redownload all the windows updates which takes forever :( . Is there anyway to kind of take a step backward before I did system recovery (I still have the backup files) if not does anyone know how to install sound devices.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Undo System Restore

I believe XP allows you to undo a restore. Open system restore, and you should see an option to undo it.
