wednesday my son plugged his headphones into the dvd-rom players jack. the headphones didn't work, but my speakers quit working. i tried three separate speaker systems (both powered and non-powered). I have a dell with onboard sound. device showed the device to be working properly. i disabled the onboard and installed a creative live 24bit card. the card was recognized and software loaded properly. device manager shows no conflicts or problems. still no sound. sure need help.

If your SB software installed properly you should have sound.

One can recheck to see if you have plugged the speaker cable into to the correct sound card jack, usually for SB it's green, be sure to check your user manual first.

Other things: Start, Run box, type in dxdiag and do some diagnostic testing for sound and music capabilities.

Also one could right click on the little 'volume' icon on the right side tray and open up the volume controls and make sure that the sliders are adjusted properly, see what items are 'muted', if any.

Also, by right clicking on the 'volume' icon you could adjust the audio properties, set your speaker settings etc, as you should see in the box that comes up.

Beyond that one could take your speakers to another computer and see if you have sound, as well.

If that doesn't help then I would call Dell. Good luck.
