No sound while watching DVD with VLC Player

I have been watching numerous DVDs on my comp with VLC player and never have any major problems. However, I was just watching a copy of "Windtalkers" and the sound would stop after about 15 seconds of playing, afterward if I attempt to FF or Rew or stop the player will just froze.

I have tried the same DVD on a regular DVD player and there was no problem, so are there anything I can do about this?

Thank you!

WMD won't work for some reasons, it plays but the screen is a mess.

I have tried other DVD players before, but none of them works, only VLC, I never understood why.

Maybe it is problem with the drive that is reading the DVDs? erm maybe its drivers?, im sorry im only person replying as I really have no idea what im talking about lol.

There is a thing called "Codecs". On movies if your player does not have the codec for the specific movie it will not have sound and other weird things may happen.

You may need to do some searching around and see what codec you need for the specific movie you have.

Is is a burnt DVD??

I did not think you needed codecs for a DVD unless it is copied using XVID. Correct me if im wrong? and he also said it started playing fine, which means it gets decoded to start with which can only be done if the codec is presant.

Yes if the DVD is burnt or the movie was downloaded (<--Don't Download Movies!) But yes, The movie will sometimes play for a little and stop with sound or the video will be gone and audio will still be playing. You need codecs to keep them playing smoothly. Mpeg 4's are bad with this issue.
