Hi,

Okay, I am having a problem. My sound is not playing/working at all. I downloaded the ac97 driver and it says after I click setup "No driver or AP was supported in this driver package". What does this mean? Can someone guide me to where I can reinstall my entire sound board that was included with my MB?

Thanks in advance.

Try not to start two threads on the same problem. Is the onboard sound enabled in the bios? The first thing to do when suspecting a driver missing on any hardware is to take a quick look in the device manager to see if anything is listed under "other devices" or simply has a yellow mark next to it. If you downloaded an update for a different model board that would explin the error message.

The Asus support site will have the latest sound, board, and bios updates at their support site if the board you are having the problem with is seen in your sig. The latest RealTec driver V5.10.0.5870 is available at http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Hi,

My fault, I thought I just might as well write a new one in the correct group.

My speakers are all plugged in but I dont see a volume icon in task bar and when i go to sounds in control panel, it says there is no audio device and it is all greyed out buttons.

Also, in bios my AC 97 is enabled. When I download the driver from Asus.com, it says when I go into setup icon of zip file "No driver or AP was supported in this package".

What do you think is causing this issue? If it wont take the driver, what else?

Thanks in advance.

When going to run an executable from any zip file you can highlight the setup or install file and open the dropdown menu for "checkout". Winzip will create a new temp folder and extract the file or files into that. Then you browse to the new folder and start the setup.exe or install.exe file in there.

The sound controls will remain greyed out in Windows since the correct drivers haven't been installed yet. If you have the original board cd you could try getting the drivers there to go in by using the update driver option if you found anything under the sound and game controllers or "other devices" sections in the device manager. You would simply browse the cd for the audio driver folder. You may have downloaded the wrong update if you didn't get to the correct model with the selector at Asus.

After I installed the driver from the ASUS CD and after a day or so, my comp finally recognized this. It brought up the text balloon on the bottom with hardware recognized (audio), mentioning AC'97. Then while going through the prompts, it says that it cannot complete and says "code 10", following with a help and support box coming up but that is empty, as if I need to manually search for what I am looking for.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

Thx!

Did you use the installer when going for the audio drivers there or browse to the folders while in the device manager? The idea here was to right click on the yellow marked item and avoid any third party(the installer software on the cd) to browse directly to the driver folder on the cd. You want Windows to show what it finds and then hightlight and click the ok button to have Windows install the correct drivers on it's own. This allows sets them active in the system registry.

With a downloaded update that could have either it's own installer or simply unpack to a temporary folder. You will probably have to uninstall any current drivers before having Windows redetect and install any updates. If the audio chip on the board hasn't failed you should at least partially have sound restored.

So, my problem is solved. I just bought a Sound Blaster Audigy SE for $30 at the store and it works wonders.

I haven't had a sound problem since going with an Audigy 4 Pro here. The previos card an Audigy 2 ZS Gamer simply quit one day on the old case. I save the onboard audio in case of a card failure. But the EAX can't be topped for both multimedia and games here.
