no sound in XP

i can't get sound out of my girls pc.i have tryed the voume control but it says there is no mixer installed.i tryed adding hardware legacy audiodriver and still nothing.any ideas?speaker are on and the volume is up.

is it onboard or pci card. Do you have drivers installed.

you could have set your computer on mute or something like that.

In that case, there's a 99% chance the sound card is either not being recognized (=hardware problem of sorts), or there is a driver problem.

Try updating the drivers; if that doesn't do it, I would recommend downloading a Linux LiveCD and seeing if you get any sound. If not, the sound(card?) is probably done for.

driver problem,reloaded the drivers for her pc and it worked like a charm.thanks alot for all the help i get on this kick ass site!!!!!
