Hi

I have 5.1 surround speakers that used to work with my computer, but ever since I wiped the c drive they do not work, I have looked at the device manager and everything looks ok.

If I attached headphones I can hear music and watch a dvd, but not without them.

Can anybody help, it is driving me maaaaaaaaaaaaaaddddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

:( :o

I know this may sound dumb but make sure the connections are in the right places and check all the volume bars/dial/etc.. are up and everything.

Okay besides the obvious, try hooking your headphones directly into the back of the sound card and see if you get anything. Also, when you say you plugged your headphones in, is that into the speakers or somewhere else on the computer?

If your headphones work on all ports on your sound card then your speakers may be broken though ive never heard of speakers to just up and quit on ya...

What software are you using? Perhaps try reinstalling that.
If there's no problem with the software then try running a sound test, which may be availible with the software you're using. There's no need to reformat the entire system like Lonely said.
However, if it's only the headphones that are working and never the speakers, it may be a problem with the speakers themselves, what model and how old are they?

Have you tested your speakers with something else? If everything works on your computer(with headphones) then it must be something with the speakers...
