No sound from ANY device!

Previously, I had a headset (which I would use when I made Youtube blogs), and a set of speakers. I used them both extensively, because the headphones get uncomfortable after a while, so I use the headset to listen to things I don't want my neighbors hearing, but use the speakers for things that I'm not shy about. Switching back and forth between the two was easy, as there were two green plugs for me to plug audio output into. I simply told the computer to prioritize the headset, which was plugged into the more convenient socket, and I simply unplugged the headset's male plug when I wanted to go to speakers.

And, for a few months, it worked nicely.

However, when my headset broke, I ordered a replacement off eBay. I used the speakers, exclusively, until the headset arrived.

When it got here, it was uncomfortable, so I got the ingenious idea of plugging my Xbox 360 wired controller into a USB port on my tower. This allowed me to play ROMs of old games that were designed for controllers, without the frustrations of playing a controller-designed game on a keyboard.

Then, I got the idea to take it one step further: I'll plug my Xbox Live headset into the 360 controller, and use THAT as my PC's headset.

Well, that didn't work. When I made a "testing" video (where I just say "testing" several times to make sure that it works), it was completely silent.

So, I swallowed the bitter pill, and hooked the uncomfortable headset back up. There's just one problem: Now, NOTHING works! Not even the speakers work!

How do I get my sound back?

Start some music or something up.

Go to control panel > sounds

look at the levels for whichever one is changing and if it isn't your default device, make it your default device.

Close whatever program you were using for the music or whatever sound you were using, open it again and try again
