is it onboard sound or do you have a separate sound card cause if you have a separate soundcard then unistall and reinstall the soundcard drivers and if it is onboard sound make sure you dindt turn that off acciedntlyu in the bios and check to see in the start panel that the sound isnt muted

it is onboard sound and i will check the bios next time i restart but i havent changed anything in the bios for 2 months and it started happening 3 weeks ago and i have gone everywhere looking for something that can unmute it.

Both speaker ports? You have two?

Try going to Start->Run->sndvol32

Make sure that none of the options have the mute box checked, and that all the sliders are at the top. Some media players will just mute/devolumize the entire system's audio instead of their own.

i have one speaker port in the back of my computer and one in the front for easy access. i will try that thing above when i get home, im at school now.

im home now and i did wat u said and all it did was bring up the interface of all the sound settings. i have a shortcut to that in my taskbar. but nothing was muted.

the intel onboard sound drivers? i found some for my intel 915g chipset but no sound ones from intel. i cant really find any sound ones.
