I have a lap top with a wireless card built in and i have a wireless router. i can connect directly to the router wirelessly from the lap top and it says i am connected with EXCELLENT signal strength but if i go to open firefox or internet explorer it says this page cannot be displayed... i am wondering if i maybe have a firewall that is blocking it that i dont know about. if so how can i find it i dont have norton or any other virus scanner that would block it so i am at a complete loss any help would be great

Thank

Does the router have a valid connection to the internet? Usually they will say connected or not in the upper right hand corner of the router. Do other computers get access from the same router at the same time?

Check the lan settings from my network places. (right click and select properties). make sure there is only 1 wireless connection listed. And that the tcp/ip setting are obtained, not specified.

i still cant connect the netgear guy told me to put in a special ip but i turned that off and back to obtain automatically but.... i dont know what to do now... the netgear guy cant help me as far as i know you guys cant help me... what are my options?

Reset the router with the button in the back of the oruter. Then input new settings. ALSO reinstall the network adaptor on the pc you ar having trouble with.

Im guessing your getting a 192.168.x.x address right? if so ping one of the other laptops (turn off firewall) If you cant pin then your not on the lan.

try pinging a internet address

ping 198.6.1.3

if you get a reply then you have a dns problem, if you dont get a reply you have no internet connection.
