No dialogue with new Sound card

Hey I got the SoundBlaster X-fi Xtreme Audio sound card a couple weeks ago and it was working fine until one day i was playing oblivion and there was no audio to the dialogue. The music and sound effects were still playing but whenever i went into conversation there was simply no dialogue. I figured it was a problem with the game so i was planning on reinstalling it and i popped a dvd in to watch and again there was music but there was no dialogue in the movie.....Anyways Im gonna keep trying to solve the problem but if anybody has any idea what could be goin on or how to fix it i would be quite grateful to anybody who can give me a hand

When going to the Start>Programs>Creative folder look for the volume control panel and double click on that from the dropdown list if you don't see the icon for it in the system tray. Switch to the entertainment mode if you have that in one of the other two and make sure the SVM(Smart Volume Management) is disabled. That can goof things up right away.

The equalizer is also enabled by default and can be unchecked if you don't use it since everything is set at the default mid range. If you still continue to have the problem remove and reinstall the software/drivers in case you saw an incomplete install initially.

Disable or click cancel on the auto updater in case you just happened to get a Vista update if you are running XP. I ran into that one with the Xtreme Audio and later Xtreme Gamer model as well.

Alright I tried reinstalling the drivers to no avail. I was running the diagnostic that came with the driver and in it I found out that no sound was coming through my center, rear left and rear right speakers.....but when i listen to music or play video games those speakers are working fine. If that made any sense lol

In the oblivion options menu is there a setting to change your audio options? Try switching to a different setting and see if that solves your issue.

If that's the case where the game has it's own speaker settings for headphones, 2 1/2, 4, 5.1, 7.1 and it's set default at stereo that would explain part of it. But even with the card here set to headphones sound is still heard from all.

One thing besides the game to try testing the sound with would be a media player like WMP. If you hear stereo headphones or 5.1 on all speakers you may need to simply reinstall Oblivion due to glitch with the game itself.

On the other hand if you still are lacking sound from the rear and center then you may be seeing a problem with the card itself. Most likely it will be either a sound setting in the game like ukulele ninja pointed at or a need to reinstall the game.

Aren't software problems fun? Simply putting in the game disk and lacking dialogue does point more at that.
