NIC card not obtaining ip automaticly

i had logged on to my computer and as soon as it loged onto windows xp home the computer just turned off for no reason to my knowledge. when i turned it back on the bios poped up with a message saying "WARNING! your computer shut down due to a thermal event". and since then my intergrated nic card does not obtain a ip automaticly i can put it in manually and it works fine but otherwise no. this is on a windows xp home ed computer its a dell deminsion 2400 with 512ram if anyone knew anything about this, thanks.
 
all is operating now. it turned out it was a network wide problem and that was easy to fix, everything just needed to be reset and all was fine.
