NFS: Carbon Menu Lag

Since updating my drivers recently for my G965 board with the GMA X3000 IGP it's been working quite nicely. After playing Flatout 2 with success I decided to be bit more brave and tryout NFS: Carbon. Well after downloading and installing the demo I opened the game to find alot of lag throughout the menu system, Fraps reported 3 FPS (The intro screens were all fine). After finally making my way thru all of the screens and choosing a track, with no increase or decrease anywhere at anytime of navigating thru, I finally started the game. Just for kicks really because I figured that if the menu system was pulled down this much I figured the game to either freeze or blue screen one. The loading screen (With the little x's everywhere) at first shows 14 FPS and is very much smooth for the most part, but after a few seconds it drops to the 3 FPS low. After loading, the control and tips screen show and it pulls a steady 30 FPS. When the "3d action" starts you get a cinematic view showing all of the cars making it's way towards your car and showing the racer beside you, here I get around 7 FPS but it goes up and down finding a low of 4 FPS and a high of 9 FPS. After all is done and you get your rear view of the car and it's time to race it maintains playability with a steady 15 FPS. After racing with a very much playable 15 FPS it goes back to the loading screen and does it 14 FPS to 3 FPS drop and then you get right back to the 3 FPS menu system lag! I'm not sure what's causing this but the game is playable and the menu system isn't....

I've been as detailed as possible above and hopefully I can find out why the menu system is full of lag. The FPS in the menu system never rise or fall, no matter what resolution is set. Right now the games settings are at all low except world detail which is set at medium and the reolution is set at 1280x1024. I have the most up-to-date drivers for the board and I've searched around looking for an answer for my problems with no luck so maybe someone here has an idea of what is causing this. And please no mention of me buying a video card....

Thanks in Advance,
Devin

GMA X3000 is horrible video card. So, try to play the game on 800x600 on lowest setting. If it still lags then play it on 640x480.

If it still lags then you will need to get a new video card. Period.

It's a Gateway GT5238E and here are the specs.....
E6300 C2D
1GB DDR2 PC4200
250GB WD 7200RPM HD
GMA X3000 (256MB Shared)

After you get thru the menu screens the game itself doesn't lag just the menu screens.......period  .

Well considering that comment. You could chalk it up too poor engine (although the menus are smooth on my pc) or you can chalk it up to the demo (I've never played the demo).

There is a strong possibility that if you installed the "full" game, it might not have the issue. Do not hold me to that though ;).

As always I recommend that you make sure all drivers are updated, especially video and then audio. Also install any latest game patches (usually just full games).

It would not hurt to check for a demo patch, sometimes they are created to fix issues that they might have had with the demo.

Good luck.
