First I just want to say hello. So hello.

Secondly, I am considering trying to build a new desktop. Now, I have not a clue about computers. Aside from cruising the internet, and limited abilities with MS Office 2007. I am not at all tech savvy. I am concerned mainly with the difficulty of building a computer from scratch for a complete novice/noob.

Over the last couple of years I have saved 1500 dollars towards a new machine. I currently use a laptop.

I game quite a bit, mainly Civ5 and WOT. I am pretty certain I will play the new C&C Generals when released. I also may play MWO.

So I have up to 1500 bucks to spend, although if I can build a decent computer for less, that would be fine.

Would it be worth somebody, who is tech cripple, attempting to build a gaming machine? Or, is it a pretty difficult task that I should leave to people with more knowhow? I have no desire to build something that will not work, and only succeed in burning down my home.

So any suggestions/advice etc would be appreciated.

Hi , Welcome!!

It really is not as difficult as people think. Are you good hands / electronics?

The compatibility is the most difficult part IMO.. Making sure the CPU socket and motherboard socket etc are compatible.

The younger you are the easier it would be to pick up on this.

PS. You could also buy a barebone computer... Case/PSU/CPU/MOBO and you could install the rest

Thanks for the info. As for age I am 35 so not that young anymore. I was just watching a video on youtube with a guy building a computer. It does not look to hard. In saying that I will need to research a lot more before I begin. Seem this site is a good place to begin.

building is easy,i am way old (55)- with no previous knowledge, and it seemed like a snap, just read, research, and assemble- ask a lot of questions too
also you will have a nice system for 1500.00- monitors are way down in price.
watch for sales and start spending/building
