New wireless Dlink router

I need to replace my old Dlink DI-614+ router. I would like to upgrade to a G or draft N wireless router within the Dlink brand and don't want to spend a lot of money. Any suggestions? I will only need the wireless connection for two laptops that access the internet. I would like a better range than I currently have. The router is located in the basement and can't be moved upstairs. Should I have a wireless access point?
