Hi all,

We just got the linksys wireless g router with the speed booster, and we have been trying to encrypt. I don't know if anyone is familiar with the this "secure easy set up" that linksys has but I have a laptop with an internal card and for some reason I can't connect to the router.

My question is (drum roll please): Can I install a new linksys wireless card with the "secure easy set up" with the speed booster onto my laptop with my existing internal card? and will it work properly?

HEY, chill out, you posted at half 3 in the morniing, even at 9:50 i wouldnt expect everyone to be awake, no need to bump it so soon.

Anyway, are you asking if you can run 2 different network cards at the same time or what, yes of course you can install a new linksys one, nothing to stop you, as long as you have the correct expansion slot, i.e. PCMCIA slot.If you are asking if you could connect to 2 diff networks at the same time, then the answer is yes but you can only recieve the internet through one of them.
 
Yeah definitely no need to be bumping so soon. We dont live here. Ok to answer your question, gonna need makes and models of the router and the wireless card :)
 
you can technically do that, but its not worth purchasing another card. instead, go to http://www.kurtm.net/wpa-pskgen/ and generate a WPA key or here http://www.andrewscompanies.com/tools/wep.asp to generate a WEP key. which ever your internal wifi card can do. WPA strongly recommended. when you get that key, forget about the easy setup thing. its another attempt to make things easier, when in fact, they make it more difficult.

put they key in the router, under wireless and then under wireless security.

then, put the key in your wifi card by using the bundled software, or the windows wireless.

just right click on the adapter in network connections, click on properties, then click on the wireless network tab. you select the AP ure trying to access, or create new profile for one, and put the key in there.

to use the windows wireless app, you have to have Wireless Zero Configuration services started in services.msc.

Yes my question is, can I install a new card into my PCMIA slot (which is free) with an already existing internal wireless card? And is it worth the money to do so?

Hehe sorry bout that, I just really wanted answers lol! Actually I posted at about 6 or 7 my time, I guess it's different for people on the East coast. Anyway right now I have a internal Intel Pro Wireless 2200 B/G card. The model of the router is a linksys wireless 802.11 g 2.4ghz broadband router with speed booster, model number is WRT54GSV4.

i am syked myself! we just got wifi at work, so now i have it here at work ( ;) ), have it at home, and at school! lucky me, internet always at my finger tips!
