First post, so be gentle.....:D

I guess its been asked before, but I can't find a relevant thread....

Desktop PC upstairs, New Tosh laptop downstairs. (both on wireless)

Both successfully connected to the net via a BT Voyager 2500v router.

How do I network the two machines?

Is it via the router, and if so how?

Maybe you can point me towards a thread if this one has been asked before (I guess it has..)

Thanks guys

:D

All you need to do is make sure both pc's are in the same workgroup.
-Right click my computer---> select properties--->Computer name tab--->change the workgroup. Select anything like MShome or workgroup...

Do it on both pc's.

On each pc share a folder you want to be able to share files from.
-right click a folder/HD and select sharing and security. Enable file sharing for that object.

To see the other computer double click the my network places icon. Select Entire network, microsoft windows network, and select your workgroup name. You should see your Pc listed which you want to see files from.

OR you can do a \\localip address EX. \\192.168.2.1 or \\computername EX:\\johndm

Do this in internet explorer.

OK, thanx for the quick reply....

I did the above, but just get a message 'xxxxx not accessible, you may not have permission to use this network resource, workgroup list not available'

Any ideas?

Try running the file and printer sharing wizard from my network places. Also make sure you dont have zone alarm, or firewall blocking it. Some antivirus will block it also.

I have Norton Internet Security 2005 firewall running, should I come off the www just to turn the firewall off and configure, then can I put firewall back up before reconnecting to the web, or will it still block my network?
