New Speakers?!?!?

Hey Guys...

Lately ive bevoming really intrested in my sound, and more importantly SQ (Sound Quality)

Now i got a set of Micro Labs, they are good at low volumes, amazing at 1/4 way up, but after that they start distorting.

Im looking for a good set of speakers, That will provide very strong bass, yet will not distort at high volumes (good for movies, Hip hop, and Rock).

The Set of speakers that come to mind are the Logitech Z-2300. Strong, yet can handle the power...

But, I was also looking at the Logitech Z-4. They are also half the price...

ill get a good sound card aswell, recommendations welcome

I Preferably want Logitech, but if someone can find me a good set of Creative, or anything else, im willing to listen...

Now i want these speakers for everyday use, but i watch the occasional movie, and i love to blast my sound (I dont need it to be so high that i can start a house party...)

One main thing i want is strong bass, cause i love dropping a hip hop beat, and i really need the bass...

thanks guys...

If your really interested in real sound quality then computer speakers will not give you the sound your after. To get a nice clean sound I'd reccomend buying a hifi seperates amp and speakers. Thats what I do and it sounds much nicer and cleaner than any computer speakers I have heard.

yeah but im also tight on space...

I understand that they wont give me the best SQ, but i want something that is close to headphones... (where you can hear footsteps on CoD 4)

I cant hear footsteps with my speakers, but im planning on fixing that...

I need something with a wider range of sound, and something more responsive...

Some people says that Z2300 do have a good bass but it sounds tend to become muddy at times. It means you get the thump you want but you lose the clarity of the music you listen to. You might consider Klipsch Promedia 2.1. This speaker got a pretty good review and a lot of positive comment about its ability in producing tight and deep bass.

I haven't tried it though, as I'm currently using Altec Lansing FX6021 which is IMO a VERY good speaker. It offers good mid range and a brilliant treble that make it have a very good clarity. And other factor this speaker is good at is its ability to create such a wide soundstage. But if what you want is all about bass then this speaker may not satisfy you because Altec Lansing is known as a brand that not lean towards making speaker with a super deep tight and thumping bass. But overall I'm very happy with this speaker, and I'm using it for about 3 years :)

You could look into getting a set of powered monitors which are essentially hifi quiality speakers with a small amp built in. But if it is computer speakers your after I have heard good stuff about Harmon/Kardon speakers.

You will get a much cleaner sound out of the monitors tho.

Im not after only bass.

As i said, i wand a wide soundrange, so i can hear everything well (like footsteps on CoD4, its something i find only headphone provide)

And i want it to have a strong bass, for those sick beats, but not to become muddy or drown out the treble...

I was thinking about Harmon/Kardon (my moms merc has a H/K split system) and it totally rocks, but the price is a little overboard...Nearly Double the Z-2300 for the Soundsticks II

I think the Z-2300 is my budget limit... (they even a little too much)

I was looking at the Altec Lansing FX4021. Are they anygood???

I think its between the FX4021 and the Z4....

...Or, install basic speaker setups, and install a external car audio sound system. I have a $20 Roadmaster subs (2x subs 2x tweeters) with a $15 amplifier, and the bass sounds great.

I reckon, for what you seem to want, the z-2300s are probably perfect. It's a big and powerful sub, so you'll hear everything. The m-audio speakers above will provide no bass, and are probably rubbish as they're only 100 squids.

Even a nice set of hi-fi speakers will struggle to recreate the tight bass of your headphones - I've got a set of PMC ***s (can't remember the number), but even with their £700 price the bass is questionable (mostly because they're ported - if I want to hear it I have to stand on the street outside, where there's a lovely pool of it!). Obviously this is due to various factors (positioning in room, shape of room) but a 2.1 setup will pretty much remove these problems.

Basically, for a good hi-fi sound you have to spend a lot, whereas a nice, cheapish set of 2.1/5.1 speakers will do the job so well you won't want anything else. Plus the bass from the z-2300s will be present and strong at all volumes.

Both logitech systems have 8" subs, but the z-2300s have considerably more power. That power will help you with that tight bass you want - the z4s have 40watts or something to power a sub that size? Could be a messy, boomy sound... I'd save a bit more and stretch the budget to the z-2300s.

If it was just bass he was after I would reccomend a set of sub speakers but as it is a nice all around sound monitors would do the job best while not having as much bass.

But yes, the M-Audio speakers are bottom end monitors and if your budget stretches I would reccomend a pair of nice monitors. But PC speakers with a sub won't give you as natural a sound as they tend to put a nice sub in and skimp off on the saterllites.

Companies such as logitech make nice computer accessories wheras companies like M-Audio and Yamaha make musical products and are good at it.

Yup the M-Audio, Yamaha and other brands that making a music recording product is create a monitor speaker that can produce well in music department. They are not gaming intended or something. So if you tend to playing games than listening to music, such monitor might not satisfy you.

Why not trying the Edifier brands ? It's speaker usually have a good price to performance ratio. I have the Edifier S2.1 in my dorm which I bought for almost third the price I paid for my Altec FX6021. It sounds great, it just lack the excellent treble and wide soundstage my FX6021 can give. It provide quite a bass too, although its a bit 'musical' than rumbling.

As for FX4021, some says it have a very good bass ( due to its dual-Isobaric woofer technology applied to its subwoofer perhaps ? ) but lacking at midrange production. Actually I'm not too fond of tinny sounding speakers though, but you can try auditioning it anyway. It just my opinion though, every people might have different sound preferences right ? :)

Hey there,
I have the Logitech Z-2300 setup running. I love it. I've had them for about 2 years now. Music sounds amazing from the highest highs to the bowel-trembeling lows. Today just to test, I turned them way up whilst playing Fallout 3 and shot a few rounds. Wow you should have heard it. Neighbours weren't impressed o_O It sounded so good. Also, if your into your music, download THX audio enhancment and dont forget to tweak your graphic equilizer just how you like it.

If you want any more info about them don't hesitate to ask mate. Best of luck :)
