New sound card problems

I have been having problems for a while regarding sound files in general and many different things. Recently I found out that there was a problem with my driver for my stock sound card. I tried to fix it and couldn't figure it out so I just bought a new sound card. I installed it and now nothing happens at all. I can't get any sound to come out of my speakers whatsoever. This is a really big deal, I have a major deadline for a work project tomorrow and I can;t do anything without this fixed because it is causing problems in other software I have where they can't work saying error playing the audio file.

I need help ASAP if anyone could call and try to help my number is 905-954-0532 it would be greatly appreciated. At this point I have to basically stay up until this is fixed no matter what. Please, I beg for your help anything that anyone can offer!

Thanks,
Zac

If you were running onboard sound and simply tossed a new expansion type card in a slot it won't work until you go into the bios and disable the pnboard audio. The two things will conflict with each other. Review the board's manual for settings since that may be in the advanced or integrate peripherals section on the board there.

What brand and model are you running there? If you are running XP and used the auto updater for a Creative model lately you may have seen Vista drivers go on instead. But disabling the onboard is always the first step when adding a card in.

Take a look in the device manager to see if you run across any "other devices" in case the drivers failed to install correctly if they were from the software disk. Also make sure you have any firewall and antivirus programs disabled. The Windows firewall, antispyware with protections, and other programs can hamper software installers at times.

I am running XP and I did have 'Other devices' showing up even before I touched anything and it was due to the fact that my onboard one got screwed up and the driver didnt work. After going in the bios and disabling it the other devices is gone now and my new sound card just appears under the sound thing like it should.

I have the Dynex 7.1 sound card. It is by no means a highend sound card but this computer is not used for anything that would require a highend sound card and so we thought this one would be fine.

I didn't disable my firewall or Macafee when I installed it but it seems like it is acting normally, this sound card has its own utility and what not and it all works just nothing comes out the speakers...

You may have ended up with a bad card. I never did rma one capture card I got in bad since the software worked well on a tv tuner card I had on the old case here. The last thing would be going to the faq section for troubleshooting information at the manufacturer's support site.

You can try right clicking on the items in the device manager to try the update driver option to manually select the type of device and browse the disk to see if Windows will then make the drivers active. These are your best two options at this point.
