Hey all,

well i just got my Aureal Vortec 2 sound card today but i cant seem to get any sound from it.

this is what ive done so far...

i uninstalled the intergrated sound drivers....disabled my onboard audio in Bios and saved changes....opened up case and insert the new soundcard and reboot the pc.

then when windows restarted it detected the new pci audio device but didnt install them or ask for any drivers.

ive looked in "Device manager" and there isnt any yellow marks

ive also tried to find drivers for this card with no results whatsoever....i cant even find the manufacturers website:(

im lost people what shall i do?

was i right in just inserting the new card or is there a cable or something i need to connect because i noticed there is 3 connectors at the top of the card connected to nothing?

the card...

The blue and pink colored jacks would be for mic and line in with the two green being the front and rear output jacks by the looks of tha card there. The card itself should see very small abbreviations engraved just below each jack specifying that. Make sure nothing in the audio console found in the Start>Programs>Aureal folder> ? is muted. Also right click on the items for the card in the DM to see it they show "device is working properly".

thanks for replying,

i do have it connected in the right place,I have my speaker cable plugged into te green front output.

i looked in the DM and clicked on the items for the card in the DM to see it they show "device is working properly" and they were

whats those 3 connectors for at the top of the card though?

the black,green and white ones.

i have nothing plugged into these.

okay i looked on my motherboard and i saw this white cable going to a connection on the motherboard called Aux-in.

so i unplugged it from the motherboard and connected it to the Aux-in connector on the top of the sound card (the white port) and i booted up windows again and i heard the windows startup song but it just cut off half way through playing it:cool:

whats going on?

ITS WORKING YAY!

nah mate i did need to take it out the mobo because the card needed it.

the reason i wasnt getting anything is because i had to do this complicated crap lol about
PCI configuration register on the sound card or something.

this

it sounds much better than intergrated.

Awesome, glad you got it working Shane! :)

without that guide i wouldnt have been abe to do it so.... :D

yeah that Aux-in cable was connected on the mobo so that must have been for the integrated sound.

i cant get over how much better it sounds and its louder:P

Is the card in the first pci slot? That would explain why the patch was needed from the web site. XP's resource sharing comes into play there causing some problems at times with the older boards. The top jack is an RCA phono type while the two below are for the mic input and line in from an analog audio source. You would use an RCA to 1/8" mini plug type adapter to run sound in from a vcr or other device like an old camcorder.

my card is in the very last Pci slot at the bottom of this picture because i have 3 Pci slots but two of them are realy close to my gfx card and it would restrict airflow to my card...

thats an old pic but see that white wire infront of the second Pci slot?

thats what i had to put on the card:rolleyes:

Apparently there was a big issue with Aureal vortec sound cards and via chipsets and thats probably why i had so many problems.

I also have 3 pci slots on the board here. In fact that was one thing looked for when selecting a board for the new build here. But VIA chipsets? I never hear any good things on those. I've been running nForce chipsets on several builds now.
