New Sound Card Feedback

I just purchased the Asus Xonar 5.1 sound card and installed it on my computer yesterday. Yesterday it was working fine but today when I try to use my microphone it is constantly giving me feedback. I have not done anything different and i don't know why it is doing this. Any help? Thanks guys.

I am playing it back through my headset. When i went to adjust my audio properties and test my microphone out, its not even registering that im speaking into it.

The microphone you are talking about is the headset microphone? When it worked fine yesterday, was that before the new sound card was installed? It's only with the new card that it is giving problems? The headset mutes the speakers?

It sounds like the microphone is not working at all, not a feedback issue, true? Do you have an app that shows sound levels so you can see if the microphone is registering sound, however little?

Have you checked the controls for the sound card itself (other than audio properties)? From the card specs there are a number of input features that may be affecting the mike audio.

Yes, everything is through the headset, the microphone and the playback. It was working perfectly fine on Monday before and after i had the video card in but Tuesday was when i was getting the feedback. The microphone is registering, extreeeemly little though. I have to raise my voice in order for that to happen. But i can always hear myself through my headset, even though it is registering so little.

Sometimes a combination of low gain microphone and low gain sound card can lead to low volume but if it was working OK that cannot be your problem. Presumably other inputs are working fine. As I mentioned previously there are a bunch of special settings for the card including the sound sources. Have you been through them to make sure none are causing the issue? Connections to the headset/card are properly seated?

I figured it out with the help of my dad and damn i feel stupid. The button that was making me hear my voice wasn't enabling my microphone, it was monitoring it so i could hear myself. XD Ok, problem solved. :(
