New chip fan and no sound?

Hello~

So, I had a bad chipset fan on ASUS and just put the new one in, closed the cover and restarted windows. No sound......

-My AC97 plug is in the socket on the motherboard
-My speakers are on and turned up
-I do not show a volume icon in the task bar
-I uninstalled a driver from the device manager where one of the sound icons had a yellow asterisk. It is showing some volume icons

Can someone please let me know wha tI have missed, or if i need a new driver/where to get it, etc?

You removed the bad sound driver instead of replacing it. When you saw the yellow marked item you simply right click on that and choose the update driver option in order to have Windows reinstalled the needed drivers. The cd that comes with the board will have the default drivers there unless you download an update from the the Asus support site. For the A8N5X model you get the latest drivers at http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
