New Camera: Which of these two?

go with the second one, the second one has a better video recorder, reaching 640 pixels by 480 which is very good for the price, overall they are both great cameras, but the second one seems to be better.

Well that depends because they both have their pros and cons.

The first one has more zoom then the second one. But the second one has more mega-pixels but less zoom. If you want to do more zoom and 7.1 mega-pixels is what you need or more, then I would take the first one.

But if zoom isn't that important and mega-pixels is, then I would take the second one.

If you want both of those two combined then I would take this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16830120081 but it is more expensive then the ones you posted.

It's an error on newegg, I did alot of research on cameras and those were two of the ones I was looking at, and they both have the 640x480 at 15 or 30fps.

Basically, the advantages the A710 has are a 6x optical zoom (4x on the A640), and digital image stabilization. Beyond the fact that the A710 only uses two AA batteries, and a few cosmetic differences, theres not a huge difference.

IMO I would go with the A710, because the 6x optical and image stabilization are big bonuses. Even though the A640 has a 10MP resolution, it's really not necessary unless you're making insanely large prints. I'd take quality over resolution anyday.

OMEGA, you are thinking exactly what I was thinking. I think the image stabilization is a huge advantage especially since people say the other one has blurry pics sometimes. Do you think that feature truly works? The thing I like about the other one though is the foldable screen so it doesn't get scratched as much as the 710 and the 10 megapixels.

Also guys, what do you think of canon in general? Is it a good buy or should I go with something like nikon or sony or something?

Thanks for the help!

I absolutely love Canon, which is why ever since I had the A620, i've stayed with them. I now have the Canon S3-IS and I love it!

As I just said, I used to have the A620 which is basically exactly the same as the A640, but with only a 7.1MP resolution. There were a few things I didnt like about it, one of them was the blur you sometimes got, especially when zoomed up. Another was a delay between when I pressed the shutter and when it actually took the picture.

The S3-IS that I have now has the flip-screen, which is useful to prevent dirt from getting on it, and scratches, but it also has the 12x optical zoom and optical image stabilization.

I can say that the image stabilization is a huge bonus, it helps out alot when taking pictures (especially when zoomed up or when your taking pictures in low-light situations without a flash (higher shutter rate = easier blur). Also, the image stabilizer is also active in the movie mode, which helps out alot as well.

I'll post some pics in a minute of some photos I took with my Canon A620.

Here are some photos taking with the A620. The pictures arent as clear as the originals, but thats thanks to photobucket.

Amazing pictures. How many megapixels because that is great! Is there any way I could protect my screen though if I buy it?

Just to reiterate what Omega has already said, and where I think you're leaning, the A710 is definitely the way to go. Unless you're going to be into a lot of cropping or some other heavy modification, the 10 MP is going to be overkill. Even if you are, I doubt that you would need that much. Furthermore the additional optical zoom is a definite advantage, obviously as well as the image stabilization. My current Kodak doesn't have it, and that's the only thing that I wish that it had...

Alright guys I decided on the A710. Now I found this camera for 238 from another site while newegg is 300. Does newegg price match?

Newegg is good. They don't price match, but will honor prices shown on pricewatch. Oh, by any chance, is that company for 238 located in NY, NY? Just curious as MANY of these companies are all the same one, so to throw some caution in the air, cheaper isn't always better.

I shoot with a 710 IS and love it the image stab. is great. One of my good friends bought the a640 and although the movable screen and extra megapixels are nice I much prefer to have the longer zoom and sharper pictures due to the IS.
