help would be great
thanks

1) What do you mean by "the computer detects the internet connection"?

2) What kind of Internet service do you have?

3) Assuming you have cable or DSL, do you have your cable or DSL modem connected correctly to the WAN port on your broadband router? If you have cable, then the WAN interface should probably just be DHCP. If you have DSL, then alot of providers supply DSL ROUTERS now so customers don't have to use their own, or use WinPOET or something. If you have 2 routers on your network, unless you do double-NAT, or turn 1 into a bridge or something, you're going to have trouble.

4) If DSL, it's probably doing PPPoE. Do you have the correct info supplied in your router from your provider?

5) Are your PC's getting an IP address from the router? Can you ping the router's LAN IP? If so, can you then ping the router's WAN IP?

1 - Detects the router connection
5- Yes both the pc's are getting an IP address from the router...seems like both the ips are the routers default ip address
i connected the cable modem to the router wan slot from the router 1x slot to computer 1 and 2x slot to computer 2...both the computers say its connected but when i open up the browser, the internet doesnt work
on one computer the ip is 198.28.2.1 and on the other it says 198.28.2.2
whatever happened to the isp ip address? cuz when i connect the cable modem directly to the computer i get a different ip address like 24.112.115.146 and the internet works fine but when i install the router i get different and the internet on both the computers dont work

Ok your router to your computer is working fine. It is assigning ip addresses.. The 192 address is a local ip, only your router will have the 24.112.115.146 address. I assume you use a pppoe connection (username and pw)? I would confirm all your settings in the router setup. Make sure that if the isp provided you with an ip to use, a pw or a username to use you use it.

the router is working fine, but it is unable to connect (internet) to itself, thus broadcast it to your computers.

no i dont use a username and password, its just a direct connection to the internet, i have cable modem...what do i do in the router setup and how do i go there?

Does the router come with Firmware? If not go to their website and download it.
Download any updates for your Network Cards.
The problem might be conflict of ips so try to assign them.

First Get one of the computer to get to the internet.
1. Go to command prompt type in ipconfig/all.
2. Copy down the DNS server.
3. Go to View Network Connections.
4. Click on your network connections.
5. Click on properties-> Tcp/ip
6. Tick use the following Ip address.
7. Assign an ip address for that computer(198.28.2.1) the other one 192.28.2.2
8. Subnet Mask usually (255.255.255.0)
9. Default Gateway should be your router's ip address.
ipconfig/all should give you the router's address.
10. Type in your DNS server that you got earlier.

If the updating of drivers and assigning ip doesn't work now you know there's something wrong with router. Check your Network cable to the Network card also to make sure.
