Networking my HP printer

I have an HP 6110 all-in-one printer that I am trying to put on my home network through a Trendnet print server. I can get the printer to print from the network, but I cannot get the scan feature to work through the network. Am I trying the impossible, or can this work the way I want?

I dont think thats possible, as far as I know a print server is only designed as that, to print. You would have to hook it up to a computer on the network to share the scanning capabilities.

almost all software, drivers, etc for usb printers, or in your case all in ones, do not support doing so over the network. You would have to buy a device that is network capable by default.

If the additional functions are not supported over the network, dos this include if I were to attach the printer to a computer and share it over the network that way, as Omega suggested?

That would be the easiest way to do it, as long as the computer that it is connected to is always on.

I am all about simple. I will connect the printer to my desktop when I get home. The printer is actually from my company, as it is for my home office. My company laptop is pretty locked down by my IT department. If the printer is attached to the desktop, what would I need to do to setup the laptop to "see" the printer, as I will likely have to have my IT group make any chnages on the laptop.

I plugged the printer into my desktop (USB) and enabled sharing in properties for the printer. Now how do I make the other computers on the network see the printer?

simply give the printer a name and then add a printer over a local tcp/ip port.

for example:

\\computername\printername

then you can add it as a shared printer
