I'm about to get cable internet and I was wondering if all I would need to do in order to make that internet available to my other two comps is simply get a router and the wires to connect them and connect them? would this slow down the internet of one computer even if the others aren't on the internet? I was also wondering if building a network within the house was possible, (where you could log in on any computer with athe settings on your profile). What would I need for that, is it too hard, is it worth it?

A router will do the trick for you.
you can even get a switch for more computers and share the connection among them.

routers are worth it simply for the security features they offer. Basically you will hookd your cable modem into the WAN port of your router, and then a cat 5 cable into each PC and connect the other end into the free ports on the router. Most ISPs use typical settings where your router will litterally work out of the box.
