Hi folks, I have a couple of spare 250Gb SATA drives which I am keen on setting up as seperate storage area from the existing PC's on the network, I have searched hi and low to find a network storage unit for sata drives. Has anyone got any ideas please ?

I don't think there is much in the market of that, i'm assuming you mean for home use, there the Netcgear Storage central which takes IDE, but for SATA maybe you could build up our own PC using cheap/old parts, then install freenas - http://www.freenas.org/ on it

Thanks guys for that, i had thought about putting together a small pc and using it as a storage server but its just more room, cables etc and ofcourse getting it hidden from the missus !!.

I would just slap a really cheap PC together and run Linux with Samba to share to your PCs. Its free, doesn't require high end hardware, easy to set up, secure, and above all stable.

Plus you can also back up to it, and even back up whole images of your systems to your linux box. I am currently building a new system and my AMD 3400+ system is going to be turned into a Linux media center/file server pretty soon.
