Hi

Can anyone help!!
I connect to the internet through another computer, and everything has been fine.
Until today when my network connection went, it looks like its saying i have no network card. Which i have.
But when I go into device manager no hardware at all comes up in the list.
Does anyone know what has happened. I've tried doing a system restore but this didnt work.

try repairing your xp installation, put in your system disk and boot it, you will get to a screen that asks you if you want to install xp or repair an existing installation. This might not fix it but it's worth a shot.

Your network card may have reached the end of it's life... To check, go to the command prompt (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt, then type: ping 127.0.0.1, if it says there is no response (or something to that effect), then your network card probably has to be replaced)

ps. if you can't find the Command Prompt shortcut in Accessories, go to Start -> Run... then type cmd, which will also get you to the command prompt.

Not always, it depends if windows configured your network or you are depending on the router/hub. For instance mine is 192.168.1.1 and all stations on the network go from 192.168.1.2 onwards.

127.0.0.1 is the same as localhost, all machines use it as their default network adress, and is not connected to your network in anyway, the 192.168.x.x is what the network uses to identfy , and access your machine, on every computer 127.0.0.1 will bring up a different thind, depending on how it is configured, so as spacedude said it is the standard ip for yourself
