Network help.

ok, how new is your laptop? does it have a wireless adapter built in?

you will need to buy a wireless network card for your pc, something like this.
and if your laptop doesn't have a wireless card installed you will need to buy:
something like this
or
something like this.

the 2nd one will also work in your desktop.

once everything is installed you should be able to run a search using windows wireless network connection and your wireless network should show as "d-link wireless network" or something.

its a brand new laptop, it has a wireless adapter. it also has vista installed.. will this cause any major networking problems?

thanks for the advice.

well is the wireless gunna be near ur desktop, cuz itd be a lil cheaper to hook a ethernet cable to it, and use windows network setup, enable file printer sharing, do it on both comps, it wil ask if u want to make a disk say no, might ask u to reboot, but vista setup might be a lil different

i tried to set it up with an Ethernet cable.. but it didn't work out to well lol

i had the modem connected to my wireless router and then i had 2 Ethernet cables connecting both my desktop computer and laptop to the router...

is this the correct way of doing it? and will this allow me to share files between both computers?

u dont have to use wired, i have wireless right now im running wired to mine since the router is right next to my pc, and wireless to the laptop and pc in family room, but if u do as i said get on ur laptop and connect to the wireless and do as i said with the home network setup on both pcs

i just bought a wireless pci adapter. that is installed and working fine.

Ive gone to the network wizard and created a network..

however my laptop cannot find this network at all...

is there any special things i have to do to make this work?

double check the workgroups, make em both to mshome, and see if u can find maybe a tut on the internet about home networking in vista
