I tried setting up a network group to file share between me and my bros computer, used group name HOME. tried and tried to access files. we both have norton 06 with firewall, is this a problem?

Norton is a bitch you have to give it permissions and from my headaches in the past i just uninstalled it because if you have a dynamic ip address then you will have to go in and change it as much as your provider changed at least thats what their support told me.

The Norton Anti-Virus firewall is actually quite simple to configure to allow Windows filesharing. Follow:
1. Click the "Configure" button for Personal Firewall. This will open a new window.
2. Go to the "Advanced" tab and click on the "General" button.
3. Another window should open with a list of rules. About halfway down the list, a rule entitled "Block Windows File Sharing" should appear. Click on it and click the "Modify" button.
4. Another window should open. Select "Permit" in the Action tab. On the Connections tab, select "...to and from...".
Click OK out of all the windows. If you need any more help, post again.

ok that worked thus far, but one computer can now see the workgroup with both computers and the computer i am on freezes up when i go to my workgroup and the other computer cannot access any files nor go into my pc:mad:

thanks wells

Are you sure all the PCs have the same workgroup? Do you have folders being shared? Did you change the Norton settings on both computers?

to access workgroup or the remote pc?

if workgroup .. you may not have file sharing enabled

goto tcpip config and enable it, check box
