network, but no internet?

I have a Linksys Wireless-G router and a D-Link Wireless G adapter. If I use the adapter on my laptop, it works fine, for internet and network access. But if I put it on my desktop, it connects to the network fine, but I can never access internet. Occasionally I get an error saying that I might not be able to access all network resources (i.e. internet) but not every time.

I am using XP SP2 on both computers, and have tried with both the adapter drivers and windows drivers. All other networks are disabled, and IP addresses are automatic.

I really need to get this fixed quick, please help!

Tim

OK, I installed the Linksys Wireless-G adapter (WUSB54G) on my desktop, and it says that it is connected to the network, but internet cannot be found. Why can it not find the internet if my other computer can?

According to ipconfig /all, everything is the same (except IP adress, of course) on both the laptop and the desktop for the wireless network, except for ip routing, which is off on the internet machine and on on the noninternet machine. What is IP routing, and could it be causing the problem here?

My dad had the same prob on his laptop...it would connect to our network but it wouldnt connect to the internet...I downloaded and reinstalled the driver for the card and it worked fine.

Well the problem isn't on my laptop, it is on my desktop.

I am using 2 different wireless adapters, with the latest drivers for each, and the problem is exactly the same for both

Sounds like you have WEP turned on and your desktop does not have the right key code. Go into your router and look for the encode key it is using. Then uninstall your wireless adaptor from the desktop, then reboot. When it finds the new hardware it will ask for your drivers, install them then it will ask for your WEP key. Type it in and it should work.

No. WEP is not enabled, even if it was, I would know that. It connects to the network (at least it says it does) but no internet.

Something tells me that this is where the problem lies. Does anybody know?

does the router say it is actually connected to the internet? Usually there will be a log showing the attempts. You may have some incorrect info in the Pppoe settings.

I don't know what it says, but I can connect to the internet through it from other computers (both wired and wireless)
