I want to know how do I set up a network across ADSL , I have a friend with 2 Offices across town and he needs to network them , he has a DSL connection at both ends and work stations using Windows XP, I was told about using Open VNC (looks really confusing) .

I also want to know if there is such a thing as a full Hardware soloution i.e. DSL Routers that support VPN .

easiest way is to use a .mac

its like $100 per person, or per account, or whatever, per computer

it sets up a network between computers, users all over .mac

go to http://www.apple.com/dotmac/ for more info...

its costly, but a good and safe way to set up a network over the internet...
the distence doesn't matter.

first try the trial version, and if you like it, sign up or something.
you might think its only for mac computers, but thats not true, it works on pc as well

Shady It's a 1 Hour drive between Sites.

Adam135 anything that will let the 2 systems share files.

Charles thank you I will look at it but we are trying to cut cost's here and already have 2 PC's.

I also came across this will it work ?

I'll look into it when im home... but you can just setup a FTP folder on 1 of the 2 pc's ( i dont know what program you need for that). you can just open the ftp folder ont he other end using IE or Filezilla, you can then just copy thefiles to your harddisk on the other end.
ofcourse you can secure it with a username and password

One of my friends uses Hamachi between their offices (Sydney, HongKong, Melbourne)... hes also given me access via it too, however i havent used it enough to give any real info.

They also use Google Spread Sheets http://spreadsheets.google.com/ which allows multipul people to access & work on a spreadsheet at the one time.

Hamachi will do what you need just fine. You'll set up a VPN with Hamachi on the network you want to access remotely then connect in to it with Hamachi on the other end. It will then seem as if you are physically cabled in to the other network.

Re. hardware solutions; some routers do support VPN, but they tend to be expensive.

Using a WAN or VPN can cost alot. Is it just moving documents?

Using that website you quoted would do the job
