i would like to start off saying sorry for starting a topic that has mostlikey been done before. i searched around for a wile but a bunch of it wasn't helpful or i didn't understand.

so i have a dell xps 400. my sister is getting a laptop for school work. i guess she dosen't like me playing battlefield all of the time. i have comcast cable internet and want to setup my house for wireless networking. i found this.
is that all i need besides the wifi card? and i am thinking the range would be 50ft or so. is that an accurate guess? thanks in advance

yes, that should work, but i would assume that you could find one for a little bit less money. and i think that router ranges are around 200 feet? someone please correct me if im wrong.

hopefully you dont have to go through walls
i have a D-link gaming router that goes through 1 wall
but my sisters computer goes through like 5 walls
it reaches but its a low signal
(my 36 MB/S vs her 2.0 MB/S)

I have a linksys system in a 4 story house, we have 8 comps runin on it and the router is on the 1st floor and I can go all the way up stairs and still have like 50% it really depends on the adapter on the computer also

Yea It just does depend on the stuff you buy. I can get signal 200 ft away on one side of my house yet can only get 75 on the other. The range is very oval

I use a linksys that is on the third floor of a house. I have two computers on that same floor, a laptop on the ground floor, and can connect from my backyard with good signal strength with another laptop.

the reason i said dont buy is because it is N. N is still in draft and not final yet. I got caught up in the scam of draft n and i can go about 50 feet from my router. i recomend waiting a while to see where this N thing goes but if you do need it than that linksys N you picked is a choice if nothing else comes out

To help you out, I wouldnt invest in a MIMO wireless router at this point in time. There is no standard for it, and there are still quite a few bugs they have to work out. You will be fine with a wireless-g broadband router w 4port hub....wrt54g
