every once in a while i will loose my wireless connection on both computers. then i will come downstairs and look at my router (netgear wgt624 108mbps router) and the wireless led will be shut off(not blinking like normal) and the power led will be amber instead of green. then i usually have to reset it or cut the power and turn it back on and it will fix itself. anyone know what could be gong on?

Yeah, it could be that, but it's more likely that it's getting some sort of interference internal or otherwise... I had a D-Link router for about 3 months and then it kept resetting the connection about every 30 minutes or less, at really random times, so I took it back, got a new one, and voila! works great again! Moral: Probably the router's bad, but try putting it in a better ventilated area, and see if that helps. If not, then see if you can take it back and get a new one...

the signal that wireless routers transmit is 2.4 Ghz, which is what frequency some telephones run at as you may know. if you have a 2.4 Ghz phone in your house, that is probably interfering with the router. if that's the case, the only solution is to get a new phone.

that wouldnt do much. i ran a 2.4 ghz phone with my router for a year and its worked fine. which netgear is it? i have heard people have problems with them overheating

Yes that could be a big problem. Just because you have not had it happen, does not mean it never happens. Remember your router has like 11 different channels. If you are on the same freq as your phone just move it down a few channels.

BUT, thats not the problem, as it would not affect the router DIRECTLY, it would affect the wireless signal TO the computer. (the red wireless led would stay green)
