Netbooks

im thinking of buying a netbook. i would only use it at work for surfing and developing a website locally. i have a tight budget of £250. im put off though by the slow cpu speeds(1.66ghz) and low ram(1gb). would this suit my needs or do i need more money? the surfing would be minimal and i plan to use my dongle for that. I would need to be running a few low intensity programs such as apache server and notepad aswell as the browser. Could 1.66ghz do this or would i need a laptop for my needs? so any advice?

i would make sure you can add at least 2gig of memory. You can add later. Netbook is ok. its light and portable. i would at least step up the battery to at least 6v. a 3v will not last long.

yeah a netbook is perfect for that, Asus and Lenovo make excellent netbooks if you are looking for some. I have an Acer and it suits me well.

I'd recommend spending a tiny bit more money and buying a AMD E series subnotebook. They're a lot more powerful than netbooks (especially in video and graphics department) and not much more expensive. Take a look at the Lenovo Thinkpad E120.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. The Lenovo x120e with the new AMD E-350 cpu and integrated graphics make a very nice netbook. It is becoming very popular.

I have a 2 year old Dell Mini 9 with the Intel Atom 1.6 Ghz and 2 GB of DDR2 memory and I have never been able to over work my netbook but then again I am running Ubuntu 32 bit which multi task and runs programs like no other.

Thanks for all the replies. I wanted a notebook because its small enough to take to work and light enough. I have to get a bus to work and then its a 10 min walk to get there so it needs to be light. I watched a video with an acer one that had android OS aswell as XP, although i dont know the benifits of android i am more than happy to go with an XP boot. Battery life is no concern as i will be sitting next to a plug so it can stay plugged in. Ive googled the lenovo thinkpad but cant seem to find any indepth specs such as actual processer speed and ram.
