Need info of setting up network

Need info on setting up network

OK I have 2 desktops and want to network them. They are in different rooms so how hard would it be to do this? How would I go about it?

You will have to make sure that both computers are in the same domain group(control panel, system, computer name tab, then click change and change the workgroup). Then run windows network setup up wizard on both computers and from there on in it is pretty easy! You also need a wireless router that they are both connected to or if not you will have to hardwire them both with ethernet cables.
 
And if I have them networked and one of the computers is used to do internte banking and I use limewire from the other comp on the network will people be able to get information from the one which does banking?

They are just standard ethernet cables.

Do you mean people on the internet or people who go on the other computer?

1. When you set up a network between two computers (with file sharing enables) you are only sharing a shared folder with the other computer. So no they can't view your information.

2. If you share the folders with the other computer that have your banking details in then, obviously, the other computer will be able to see them.

3. If you use a wireless connection and only have a wep encrypted password, and you are sharing the folders that have your banking details in then, although highly unlikely, yes someone could hack into your internet connection and view those files.

Maybe I should be more specific.

My mum won't let me put LimeWire on our family computer as my Dad does banking and most of his bussiness work there. So if I put it on MY computer which is networked to the family computer will people who are smart enough to gain access to my computer be able to access the family one?
