Need Help With Wired Connection Setup for My PC and Network Devices (CAT6, Switches, Internet Speed, CCTV,Home Server)

Hey everyone,

I'm in need of some advice on connecting my PC to the router through a wired setup using CAT6 cable, and I'd love some help from the community.

Here's the situation:

The router is in my lobby, and I want to connect my PC to it with a wired connection (CAT6 cable).
The problem is, I would have to run the cable directly through the lobby to my room, which would make the cable visible and, honestly, it would look like an eyesore.

But, assuming I do run it, how do I connect it to my PC for internet access? I also have a Wiim streamer and I'm planning to set up a small home server soon. I don't want any compromise in internet speeds, especially since i have 250Mbps internet and wil lbe upgrading it soon.

My questions:

Would it be better to buy a network switch to connect to the router, and then run the wire from the switch to various components in my room? If so, which switch would you recommend? I want something future-proof, considering I'll likely upgrade to faster internet soon.
Another setup idea I’m considering: I have a Hikvision CCTV (5Cameras) system installed, and the current full-gigabit (8Port) switch is in the outer lobby. I could run a wire from that switch and bring it to my room from the outside, and then place another switch in my room.
Will this setup affect the internet speeds in my room, or will I face any issues with CCTV feed quality?
Does having two switches (one in the lobby and one in the room) cause any issues with network traffic or slowdowns?
Ultimately, I’m just trying to figure out the best and most future-proof solution without compromising the CCTV feeds or internet speeds.

Thanks in advance for your help! Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

Gigabit switches are cheap, if you want something slightly more future oriented then consider 2.5gbe switches.

No real speed reduction sharing the uplink with other devices, aside from what they consume already.
