Hey guys, newbie here, looking for some tech help. Please forgive me if I cover and old topic.

So I just bought this on Ebay....http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Borescope-E...168?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3369adcdb8

Had a quick question. The output is USB, which I can obviously use with my laptop to display images, video, and capture photos. However, in the field I often prefer to not take my laptop due to rigorous jobs and the threat of breaking it.

Is it possible to run the images through anything else? I don't wanna buy a tablet or anything else, as I would just buy a borescope with its own screen. I have a portable DVD player that is tough and small, and was wondering if possible to run through this? The input is RCA video input (the yellow plug). Is there an adapter that will covert the USB to RCA video? I can find video to USB, but can't seem to find USB to video anywhere. IS this possible? Is there a host/host problem?

Any other solutions would be greatly appreciated. Other equipment I have (digital photo frame, which has USB input, but not sure if it supports live video feed). BB Storm 2, but I have heard there is a host/host issue.

You most likely need to install a driver for the device. Think of it as a webcam. While it may use a generic driver that is contained within Windows, it still needs one installed. You could probably purchase an old P4 or equivalent laptop for under $100 that is more than capable of performing the task without too much worry of damaging it.

Edited to add: Here's a couple cheap ones I found in a 5 minute search on eBay:

DELL LATITUDE C840 / P4 1.80 / 40GB / 1GB / DVD / XP

Compaq EVO N1020V 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 Laptop 512MB 40GB

I'm sure either of these would work, almost effortlessly at controlling the borescope.

a small windows tablet would serve your purposes amazingly. but unfortunately they can bit bit pricey. i can point you towards a windows 7 tablet that costs about $400 and comes with 1gb of ram, 16gb internal memory, a 10" screen and an intel atom processor.

In the same Borescope boat

I'm in a similar situation as Willis... I want to get a Borescope like the one he got... inexpensive, without its own display. However, I don't want to lug even a tablet to the job site, let alone a laptop. I'd like to use the USB input on a smartphone. Since my camera has been on the fritz, I'm thinking of replacing both my cell phone and camera with a smartphone, and also add borescope input capability without adding another display to my toolkit.

My question is, I'm not sure which smartphone, if any, will support video input without a lot of monkeying around. I've read that Android 3.1 and up will support USB Host mode. Is that enough? Or is video input a whole different layer of complexity?
