Need help with a USB sound card.

The heapdphones out on my laptop broke and the guys at the PC repairs shop gave me a USB sound card instead of fixing it which they said would have cost too much.
They said just plug it in before I turn on the computer and it will work fine but its not.
They said if it didnt work I'll have to set it up, so can anyone tell me how please?

What card did they give you? They're probably right since you'd have to replace the motherboard to fix the audio.

Your laptop may still use your old sound card. try to disable it from bios or the device manager.
I think you could try to find the driver too. All my USB sound cards needs drivers (ok they're over year old).
