Need help in disabling an existing sound card

I have just bought a new USB notebook sound adapter for $40. So now the line out plug for speakers is connected via this USB adapter. However before I start using it, I would like to know is there a need to disable the existing built in sound board? How shall I go about doing it? Some says change motherboard BIOS settings, where some says configure via device manager, where some others says add/remove hardware wizard. Also, last but not least will I still be able to use the volume control icon on my taskbar?

I need the know the best options. Thanks.

Normally in the BIOS there's an option to disable, but being a laptop, I doubt you can truely disable it. Your best bet would probably be just go to Device Manager and disable it there.

Ok. Thanks. But do I still need to go to control panel> sounds and audio devices> under audio tab> sound playback> default device> and then change to the new device?
At the same time is it okay for me not to uninstall my old built in sound card(Soundmax) but just disabling it?
