Need a nice set for under $150.

So Low it Hz

Doesn't need to be surround, i enjoy a clean, upfront soundstage with defined lows and a silk tweeter. I don't mind buying refurbed, ebay, or online. My desire is to have it sound excellent at medium to high listening levels. I'm a car audio guy, so i don't know too much about computer systems. Thanks for the help.

so i don't have an accessory soundcard, just the base that comes on the hp pavillion zd7000. I would need an external soundcard.

the use will be primarily for music, although maybe a game here and there.

by the way, i'm used to an 1800+ wrms car audio system... so something that could wang a little bit wouldn't be out of the question.

with games, the surround sound really helps, although with music, some people are happy with a 2.1 configuration. i, however, cannot stand turning my rear speakers off. it's like in my car audio setup, i can't go without the rear fill. i don't know if you're like this or not with your setup, but that would be a good way to tell yourself whether or not more than a 2.1 configuration is for you (assuming movie watching and gaming are at a minimum)

anyways, figure out if you can deal with a 2.1 setup or not, and let us know..

i bought the jbl creature a while ago and couldn't be happier with them. BIG sound and yet they are very little speakers. Great spacesaver. If you want great highs and mids these are excellent. If you're looking for big bass then they aren't for you.

How about these are your only choice, because if you hang around car stereos a lot then these speakers are for you. The next step up from those would be *good* home theatre speaker systems.

what you, sir, need, is some logitech z2300's. 400 watts peak...thx cert... i just got some for $110w/ship, ebay. I havn't even been able to turn them up full volume...they are That loud. and they're so clear im hearing things in songs ive never heard before. great speakers, seriously.

alright im done. haha enjoy.

basically, i'm used to an in-front-of-me soundstage. I'm mainly interested in wangage and sound quality. (SQ before SPL). a nice high power 2.1 will satisfy me completely as long as it kicks. If the surround system will be better (like the z5500) i'd go for it, but not if i have to buy new soundcards and shit. my absolute cap would be 200 dollars.

again, i'm accustomed to a stage in front of me, and i don't watch movies or play games that much on my computer.

Right now i'm seriously considering the Altec Lansing MX5021's.

if getting an external soundcard (laptop) and surround sound would make it absolutely kick major ass, i wouldn't be opposed to ponying up a bit.

if you want SQ, you really need to get a new sound card. the difference is like a set of components without an amp and a crappy HU...

i'll go ahead and warn you, if you're used to a really nice car audio setup, you're not going to get what you're used to from your car, especially for what you're wanting to spend.

what i'd recommend are the logitech z-5500's, and a sound car similar to this (assuming you have a free PCMCIA slot): http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=A0410859&cs=19&c=us&l=en

but then the problem is cash.. the cheapest i can find the z-5500's is 250, and the sound card i linked you to retailed at 130... (although i did look on ebay and saw one with a current bid of 30 bucks...)

If you looking for a 2.1 setup then I also vouch for the z2300. I have owned the z2300 for 6 mounths now and love them.

seriously, go to a store like frys where they have speakers systems set up, and try themm all. i tried them all and IMMEDIATLY noticed the altec lansing MX-5021 were WAY better. if there is a computer store near you. go check them out!
