I'm looking for a decent sound card that will fit a PCI Express slot and won't break the bank . I'd like to stay under a $100.00 if possible. I will be using it for games , music and some movies , so basically everything you could say. I 'd appreciate any advice.

Driver problems can come up any model as well as any brand. When first getting this build together and installing the software for the X-Fi Xtreme Audio the auto updater installed Vista drivers on XP! Someone at Creative stuffed the July 2007 Vista update in the XP section on the support site!

The MS updates then also saw the same problem since I dual boot XP along with Vista here. Fortunately someone finally corrected that mess! That was the only real problem besides the occasional install glitch you would run into when going to install drivers for any addon device I've seen.

Creative offers support for Linux now as well as for the 64bit editions of Vista. The support/download page for the Titanium can be looked over at http://support.creative.com/Product...odID=17927&prodName=PCI+Express+X-Fi+Titanium

I would say that the Titanium and Titanium Fatality Pro models would be the step up from the Xtreme Audio that also sees a PCI-E model when you look at the models seen at http://support.creative.com/Products/Products.aspx?catid=1&catName=Sound+Blaster

That's an alternative to consider. The preference here has always been with Creative however due to seeing the EAX effects now using OpenAL in Vista.

Your selection has been narrowed down to the Titanium, Xtreme Audio both by Creative or the Asus model mep916 is pointing to at the link there. The rest is upto you now.

The Asus Xonar, via driver hacks, emulates EAX support up to the 5.0 standard. It's not perfect, but it's definitely sufficient.
