Narrowed down the selection of soundcard...

I will be going with the Creative Soundblaster X-fi. I just have one more question.
Is there a difference between the X-Fi Elite Pro and the X-Fi Extreme Music? The seem to be exactly alike. If anyone knows please pass the info on. Thanks in advance.

There are obvious differences. The Elite Pro has 64MB of onboard "X-RAM", providing better performance in games. The Extreme Music does not. This review on the Fatal1ty has a table with the basic differences between the different models. Personally if you are considering the Elite Pro I would compare it with the Fatal1ty, not the Extreme Music. I own the Fatal1ty, basically because I needed the front bay and wanted the X-Ram. The Extreme Music is just the card and software, with no X-Ram.

How much does the Elite Pro retail for? Can't find it on Newegg. Only the Extreme Music.

Well you can buy all the range from Creative direct. You said you can't find them on Newegg? I found the entire range here as well, click this link.

Personally I wouldn't just go and rush out and buy the Elite Pro just because it has the words "Elite" and "Pro" in its title. Like I said, the Fatal1ty has the same X-Ram for a much cheaper price. If you are wanting to pay the extra for the X-ram, I would do some thinking before you rationalize going up another price-notch to the Elite Pro, unless you know you will make full use of the external box that it comes with, or have no room for the 5.5" bay the Fatal1ty (and Platinum) comes with.

I should reiterate that the only difference in the board is the X-Ram, the rest of the cost difference is just for the added peripherals, i.e. bays and boxes.

Is this X-ram really going to make a noticable difference in quality of the music I listen to and download? Because if not then what would be wrong with the Extreme Music and the logitech Z-5500s? I think I should be set with this particular combo. Any thoughts?

It wouldn't make any difference at all when listening to music, like I said before its sole purpose is to give a performance boost in games. If you don't play games much, or don't want to spend more just to have it, then it really isn't worth it. At the end of the day you're the one who has to make that decision.

But using any version of the Xtreme Fidelity range along with those speakers will give you awesome sound.

Thanks for all the help, Magicman!!

I will be going with the X-Fi Extreme Music. I can always upgrade later because for now gaming is not a priority. Peace!!!
