I have finally set my computer up as a server and all is working well, but I was told that to recieve a domain name, I would need to set up a DNS to handle the requests to resolve a domain name to my IP address....

I looked on google and what not and found "BIND named". I havent installed, just downloaded. Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Like, how to set it up.
How to use it properly.
How it works, ect.

have you got a domain operating system installed.
Say wa :D?

Well if you want to resolve an internet domain name, say a TLD like somedomain.com, you’re going to first need to register that domain with some registrar like GoDaddy.com. Then you have to point the name servers for that domain to your DNS server(s) on your LAN or wherever. I have not tried using a dynamic IP address with DNS but you can give it a shot with some dynamic DNS provide such as no-ip.com. Once you have that set up, then you can configure a resource record in BIND for your local web server and or other servers.

Tell you the truth, if you running a web server, I'd recommend going with somebody like SurpassHosting.com. This is because ISPs don't like it when residential users start running servers open to the public. Also the bandwidth isn't going to be there if you are expecting many users simultaneously browsing your site.

Are you just trying to setup a domain controller to use to authenticate login's from other computer? Or am I reading this all wrong? Be a bit more specific, if you are trying to setup a website and want to host it from home I would use Apache, Or use what Marware17 says.
